From collectors to dads just trying to pass along one of their favorite childhood games to their sons and daughters. This is a 1971 Eagle/Coleco NHL Pro Stars table hockey game that looks much like it did when Santa first put it under the Christmas Tree 45 years ago! You'll find 12 pictures of this classic game above this description! The first thing that hits you when you look over the pics is probably the playing surface. You won't find more than a trace of wear and tear along the slots. The rest of the playing surface grades out just as nicely and still shines like it did when it was on display in the toy department. When I acquired this game it had a degree of sag to the playing surface along the wing slots. That sag is almost completely gone now after some long hours of restoration. He playing surface is as close to flat as you're going to find on this 45 year old model! That fact alone, puts it in rare company in 2016! That's a metal and heavy duty plastic frame you're looking at! Back "in the day, " when toys were made to last, this was what awaited you once you tore the wrapping paper away. The original paint still shines very nicely. You'll find only a trace of paint loss. Table hockey games are revered for their old school graphics and logos. The "Pro Stars" model is the only one I'm aware of that features awesome color pictures of some of the greatest players to ever wear an NHL sweater; Gordie Howe, Jean Beliveau, Brad Park, Derek Sanderson, Keith Magnuson and Phil Goyette. Howe, Beliveau and Park are all in the NHL Hall of Fame. This game plays fast and true!
So take it down from your man cave throne if you desire. Get ready for some good old fashioned fun. The nearly flat playing surface is the key to lightning fast game play! The tin players glide back and forth in their slots without binding up against the playing surface. Underneath, the rod control mechanisms and springs work like new.
Each control mechanism was checked to make sure there were no cracks or stress points. Each spring was checked for kinks or other defects. If there were, they were replaced with genuine Eagle Toys parts. The underside of the frame is very clean and completely rust free.
The metal player rods are straight. Nothing is broken, missing or needs to be replaced. The original plastic nets are in excellent condition. Each net is free of cracks or breaks in the netting and each net has all four tabs that connect to the playing surface.
The nets have retained their proper shape over the past 45 years. You can see that they're not crushed or bent or broken in any way. The plastic red and green "lights" that sit atop the back of the nets are included. When you score a goal the red "light" pops out of its holder. When you tap the red "light" the puck is automatically ejected and ready for the next faceoff. Each of the red "lights" has been painted due to the shortage of available parts and works as it should. The plastic scoreboard is in excellent condition. There are absolutely NO CRACKS or BREAKS ANYWHERE! The plastic delayed action puck dropper that attaches to one of the scoreboard supports is also free of cracks. The light cardboard inserts are in excellent condition.
The Tin Men representing an. And the Toronto Maple Leafs are in excellent condition for their age!
Wear and tear is minimal and it's pretty easy to tell these guys haven't had much ice time in their careers. You won't find any rust. Some of the tin men show various degrees of bending, but nothing awful. 1971 was the final year tin men were included with Eagle/Coleco table hockey games. Plastic players became the standard beginning in 1972, thanks in no doubt to moms who feared their kids might lose some blood with those metal "weapons" in their hands. The original two pucks that came with this game are included. If you desire you can attach the blue plastic legs, one to each corner. It raises the game a bit more off the table top and makes it more comfortable to play. The original game box is included, which is increasingly rare to find these days. The box has some war scars.
There's a pretty good sized horizontal tear across the front. There are also some smaller holes and tears. Most of these blemishes were caused by the mount that the tin players attach to.All of the original paperwork is included. There's all kinds of interesting stuff. There's an assembly and game rules sheet in case you need some help. There's an accessory order form. 79 cents back in the day!
