You know the rest of the story. Look at those old school logos! It's 1969 all over again when you look at the pictures of this carefully restored'69 Eagle/Coleco Toys NHL Power Play Cup hockey game. You'll find 12 pictures of this classic game above this description! How about that playing surface for a game nearly half a century old? It's really hard to find because there isn't more than a trace.
The shine looks even better in person than it does in the pics and yes, that playing surface is 100% original. When I acquired this game years ago it had the typical sag along the wing slots. Well, thanks to some long hours of restoration that sag is almost completely gone now.
He playing surface is as close to flat as you're going to find on this 47 year old model! That fact alone puts it in rare company in 2016!
Moving on from that gorgeous playing surface to a frame that is completely metal! Remember when they built games to last?
The original paint shines like new. Again, you'll find only a trace of wear and tear in the form of paint loss. It's mostly confined to the typical areas - the top and bottom edges and around the slots where the metal game legs attach.See the pictures for details. If you're like me, games like this make you smile because they're a history lesson any student of the game would sign up for.
The original six and the original expansion six! The NHL was a much simpler league when this game was made. Then there's the "dinosaur" logos from teams now extinct such as the Oakland Seals and the Minnesota North Stars. Great uniforms, but when fans stopped filling the seats, the organizations went elsewhere. This game plays the way you'd expect a restored game to play - fast and true!
So take it down from your man cave throne when you desire. Lace up the skates and get ready for some good old fashioned helmet-less fun. The nearly flat playing surface is the key to lightning fast game play! The tin players glide back and forth in their slots without binding up against the playing surface. Underneath, the rod control mechanisms and springs work like new.Plastic gets brittle over time, especially if stored in the wrong environment and so each plastic control mechanism was checked to make sure there were no cracks or stress points. I had to replace two of the plastic control mechanisms as they were broken when I acquired this game.
Each spring was checked for kinks and big loops which have a negative effect on game play. Any faulty parts were replaced with genuine Eagle Toys parts from my collection. The underside of the frame is very clean and completely rust free. The metal player rods are straight.Nothing is broken, missing or needs to be replaced. The original plastic nets look like new. Each net is free of cracks or breaks in the netting and each net has all four tabs that connect to the playing surface. You can see that they're not crushed or bent or broken in any way.
The original plastic red and green "lights" that sit atop the back of the nets are included. The red ones are there, just below the surface of the white post. When you score a goal the red "light" pops out of the top of its holder. When you tap the red "light" the puck is automatically ejected and ready for the next face-off.
The plastic scoreboard is in excellent condition. There are absolutely NO CRACKS or BREAKS ANYWHERE! The plastic delayed action puck dropper that attaches to one of the scoreboard supports is also free of cracks. Each of the cardboard inserts are in excellent condition. The NHL logo is the middle is the original piece that came with the game.
The other four cardboard inserts are replicas of the originals and do not have the plastic spinner in the middle, so they're ornamental rather than functional. The Tin Men representing an. And the Boston Bruins are in good condition for their age!
The lithography is bright and hasn't faded over the years. These guys are veterans and have the battle scars to show it.
You won't find any rust and very little bent metal if at all. The game box is included, and it's a beauty! Just the water damage on the left side of the front cover is all that separates this box from also being in museum quality condition.
The rest of the box is very nice. The two original pucks that came with this game are included. If you desire you can attach the two metal legs to elevate the game several inches above the table top. The original game legs and a copy of the original assembly instructions sheet are included but not pictured. I pack these vintage games carefully.
